I purchased this book for my 8 year old granddaughter, who is fascinated by greek mythology. This is the most amazing, funny interpretation I've had the pleasure of reading. We took turns reading the chapters and the story is endearingly retold.I would recommend this book, actually the entire series to any young readers out there. We absolutely love it and I've since purchased all three sets

Awesome book with twists and turns you don’t expect! It took me 2 hours to read. Super fun book!
- A.E. a 2nd grader in Chicago
There is a lovely new series of books about the Greek goddesses as young girls entitled Goddess Girls. The first one is Athena the Brain and it is adorable. Athena is living on earth being raised by mortals until she is summoned to Mount Olympus by her dad, Zeus. It is time for her to attend the academy and so she bids her best friend farewell and heads off to Olympus. There she meets Persephone, Aphrodite and Artemis ( each will have their own book) as well as Zeus, Poseidon, Pandora and more. Filled with mythology and creative earthy inventions (Athena invents olives in a science fair) this book is perfect as a prequel to The Lightning Thief series and for younger kids.

Adding this February 2011--this book is constantly checked out. I added additional copies of this and the other books in the series. The girls, mostly grades 2-5 love it and someone requests it everyday. Looking forward to ATHENA THE WISE coming out in April.
Athena's called to attend Mount Olympus Academy by Zeus, who she finds out is her dad! It dawns on her that it could be possible she's a goddess, she's always been smarter than her friends here on Earth... so the day arrives when she leaves her best friend (who she's been living with all her life since she had no clue who her parents were) and the flight to Mount Olympus is a bumpy one. Everyone's so... different there.

She quickly makes friends with Aphrodite and her group of friends and quickly makes enemies with Medusa and her group of sisters. Then there's Poseidon, the cutest guy in school... who walks around with a trident and you could hear him from down the hall because of his squishy walking sound.

If you're a fan of Greek Mythology like I am, this is worth the read. It's a cute story about all your favorite gods and goddesses and what might it be like if you stuck them in a school. I can already tell that the Goddess Girl series is going to be an enjoyable one!
I bought this for my niece's daughter and she loved it so much that her mom is buying the whole series for her. I'd say it is a hit for smart young readers (girls) who want a challenge reading non main street stories. Based on Greek Mythology, it gives them an introduction to Greek literature.
Just read it and history off Greek history does not match up at all. If Zeus and Hades are brothers, why is Zeus the principle and Hades a student. 😔 Very disappointing.
Read this with my seven year old daughter and she loved it. Some of the words were a bit hard for her but with my help she was able to get through it. She also really enjoyed how it all tied back to real greek history and mythology. We ended up looking up multiple characters that were mentioned in the book so that she could learn more about them. This was a fun book and had a great storyline about friendship. We will definately be continuing this series.
Cute story. My child was really interested in this series. She is in 4th grade and is able to read this on her own. There are a few words that she has to look up, but that is mainly due to the greek mythology background of the books, not due to a reading level issue. Enjoyable read.
