So have read this book originally in paper back and now in ebook form. Loved returning to the world of the Dragons of Challon with the added content to expand the world and depth of the characters with Julian and Tamlyn that I have come to enjoy. Definitely worth the new purchase for the tablet while I have the old print version on my book shelf. Settle in to return to Scotland of old where the legends blend with reality. Looking forward to the rest of the Dragon's books.Tags : A Restless Knight (The Dragons of Challon, Book 1) [Deborah MacGillivray] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. A Restless Knight The Dragons of Challon Book 1 Deborah MacGillivray 9780821780367 Books Reviews
The first couple of chapters of this book had me completely mesmorized, the instant attraction to one another, the Fae mysteries working their magic and a soul that badly needed to be healed... It had the makings of a book that one would read and re-read until the pages fell from the book from overuse but all too quickly it went downhill.
Deborah MacGillivray was on the right track early on but it became boring and repetative all too quickly. I plan to read more of her books, she started out captivating the reader but that captivation turned into repetition, there is only so much excitement that one can draw from an apple tree no matter how ancient and powerful it may be.
A marvelous tale of a scots woman and a norman knight and the life they craft together in the time before william wallace
I finally finished reading this one. I liked the beginning, which was exciting and suspensful. But then once the characters hooked up, I thought the story started to drag. I am not that interested in the details of ancient pagan holidays, what they wore, how they danced, etc. It's nice that the hero was willing to marry the heroine in the ancient way, but it didn't exactly translate to an exciting story. I wasn't impressed with the cousin's obsession, or that everything was willed by the "Auld Ones". It seems like the auld ones, whoever they are, would concern themselves with something more important than making sure Tamlyn gets a little nooky. It's not like life in the highlands proceeded happily ever after. Anyway, the plot was adequate and the descriptions were sufficiently descriptive. This book is a solid 3-star romance, and I can only attribute the constant stream of 5 star reviews to book-review grade inflation. Let's get real, people.
I tried really hard to like this story. In the end, I didn't care about either the hero or the heroine. She was weak and he came off as a jerk. If I had as much power as Tamlyn is suppose to have, I would have turned Julian into a toad, warts and all. It would have been so much better if spells were cast, magical beasts were seen, and more acts of magic performed. But none of that occurred, leaving me very disappointed.
I love this book! I read One Snowy Knight first and wanted more of Deborah MacGillivray's work, but when I read the reviews for this one, I was reluctant. Actually, looked at it a few times before I would even get the preview. Glad I did, I love books where I am transported and feel the pain and joy of the characters. I didn't want to put this one down and it cost me a nights sleep!
My good buddy Troy loaned me a Deborah Mac Gillivray book last Valentines day and I liked what I read enough to purchase A Restless Knight with my hard earned money. I cant tell you how much I feel let down by this book. The characters are flat and dont act like real people would except for julian, he was a little more real. The ritual under the tree was kinda cool but as someone who has banged a broad under a tree, I can tell you, it aint that grate. Grass itches if you know what I mean.
I love romance novels, I really do, but this book just left me hot and bothered with no satisfaction. Writing is hard. I should know, I've been making a living as a author for years now but you really have to try and do a good job when people are paying for your books.
I love romances books set around the Norman invasion. This one looked to be a good read, so ignoring the bad reviews, I ordered it. I couldn't get halfway through before putting it down. The way I see it, there were two big problems that made the story boring and unbelievable.
1. Too many portions were repetitive. If I heard once more about Julian and his painful memories, I was going to scream. Ok, once or twice would've made me love him but after what felt like fifty times of us strolling down horror memory lane, I couldn't help thinking, 'get yourself a therapist'.
2. Neither he nor Tamlyn had any control over their bodies response to each other. I love the whole idea of losing control and having passion take over, but right from the beginning when she'd been almost raped? When Julian locks her in her own home, she meekly accepts this. Then he orders a bath for her and sits and watches her take it, like warriors don't have anything else going on. A weak plot device. There were ways this scene could have been created without Julian planning it and Tamlyn meekly submitting to it. But we know, the instant he kisses her she'd be abducted by the passion aliens again. That's when I stopped reading.
