Witches always come in threes. For the Mallory clan, those three are Artemis, Bella, and … well, Kevin.

Disappointingly normal, Kevin has spent his life in the shadow of his siblings, one brilliant, the other staggeringly powerful. But when the killing of a witch up on Cairn Hill coincides with the arrival of a handsome stranger in their sleepy home-town, Kevin finds himself going undercover to untangle the mystery behind the murder. He knows better than to get too close to a witch-killer, but as the connection between them deepens, Kevin can't help falling under Peter's spell.

On the trail of a rogue witch, Peter never expected to meet anyone like Kevin Mallory. He can't let himself be distracted by green eyes and strong hands; he has his duty, and his duty is everything. But as tensions wind them both to breaking point, Peter finds it harder and harder to resist what his every instinct tells him to do.

It took me 3 tries and about 18 months to finish this book. Why? Because the first few chapters are painfully dull. But this time I was determined to try to finish; even though it picked up some around Chap 5, it never really became all that interesting.

First the nitpicky (and not just the editing mistakes): In Chap 2 it says that warlocks are "rogue witches gone bad", but in Chap 3 it says that witches are human. Which is it? On top of that, this is the first time I have ever heard of a female witch being called a warlock. Everything I'd heard or read growing up - and I Googled again before this review - states that warlocks are male witches. Was this simply another suspension of disbelief device? As for the editing, there were missing words, misspelled words, the occasional missing punctuation mark, and things that were capitalized for no explainable reason (ex: "he studiously Did Not Think about it...") And the occasion where in Chap 4, it said that Peter & Kevin had only met that day, when in fact they had met the day before. I also hated the fact that terms and statements were being thrown about with no explanation as to what they were, such as a bogle or a fire elemental.

As for the characters, Kevin thought of himself as "a s**tty witch in a flyspeck of a town in the middle of nowhere, stacking books in a shop no one ever came into, and so d*** lonely it would core his insides out in the end." He was exactly all of that. But not only was he a crummy witch, he was incredibly naïve, childish, and impulsive. I never find immature adult characters appealing. And I think his attraction to Peter was more a case of someone new and exciting coming into town, regardless of his chosen career. Which by the way left me wondering, how was Peter able to survive? He had a car and an apartment outside of this town. How did he eat or pay bills? By all indications he left his job to follow behind Miranda and never got another one. And he was dull! The sex that took forever to make an appearance wasn't even exciting. Bella & Artemis, not sure how old they were, but they coddled Kevin like a baby when they didn't seem to have much more in the way of common sense than he did. Daewon never revealed who he really was, where he came from, or how his birth parents died. Were his parents the ones killed by Cordelia? And who was Lea? And what did he mean "Damon was my slave name"? A statement like that with no explanation and no one even questioning it was stupid and could've been left out. Cordelia was the most interesting character. There was no interaction (except for briefly with the sandwich shop owner) with anyone else in the entire town.

Something Wicked edition by Robin Moray Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I enjoyed reading about Kevin and Peter. The story was a good one. It makes you try to imagine what it would be like to be a witch.
Witches, witch hunters, warlocks, oh my. I have never read this author before but I will be keeping an eye out for more. Kevin is hard not to like, you just want to wrap him up in a hug and let him know how much power he really has. Peter's certainty that all witches are evil will definitely try your patience but we all have lessons to learn, how Peter and Kevin come to terms with the truths makes for a very good story. I didn't really think I was going to like Artemis too much at first but he proves to be a better brother than I expected. Throw in the evil warlock and boy is this a great addition to your paranormal reading.
I really didn’t expect the sweet storyline that came with this book. Reading the blurb, I thought I would be presented with a dark, mystical story but I was pleasantly surprised by the writing I encountered. Kevin is the sweetest witch I’ve ever met. And his coven is one I’d invite to tea! This was a nice little escape into fantasy with MM love.
I absolutely loved this and can't believe I forgot to write a review of it back when I first read it. The writing was amazing, crisp and nuanced, and I really cared about Kevin, who was by turns lovable and hilarious. Peter's literal hunger for Kevin was hot as hell, too. I love that Kevin's siblings weren't awful to him, either; everybody was mature and grown up about a situation that simply couldn't be helped. I really hope the writer does more in this universe!
Good story with lots of magic.Well written and interesting. Kevin, Bella and Artemis are siblings and witches. They are more powerful when they are together. Would like to read more about these characters.
